Creating Positive Change, Countering Spiritual Violence

SFNYC: Soulforce NYC is a local chapter of Soulforce, a national organization committed to realizing freedom for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people through the practice of relentless non-violent resistance.

Prejudice and misunderstanding are globally pervasive and exist today, even in metropolitan cities such as New York. Soulforce NYC recognizes that anti-gay and anti-transgender religious rhetoric permeates the discussions surronding acceptance of LGBT individuals as full members of both faith and civic communities. What begins as a sermon from the pulpit ends as a law on the books. Spiritual violence, the misuse and abuse of faith, against gay and transgender people affects us all.

SFNYC recongizes that negative rhetoric is not the only message coming from communities from faith concerning gay and transgender people. Join us as we boldly confront anti-gay and anti-trans forces in New York City. This is a place where you can enact positive change.

SFNYC meets at 6:30 PM on the last Tuesday of every month in New York's LGBT Center to plan, train, educate, and activate New Yorkers. We are a space for young and old, religious and atheist, gay and straight, to come together to create positive change. Soulforce NYC is more than just a monthly meeting or a volunteer organization; it is an organization which actively seeks to foster and develop the next generation of leaders. Whether you have participated in Soulforce actions in the past or are looking to get started, there is a place for you. Please join us at the next meeting. For more information, email info@sfnyc.org
